What MetaTrader 5 is

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a trading platform developed by MetaQuotes, the company behind MetaTrader 4. Brokers license it and run their own servers, so the platform looks the same everywhere while prices, symbols and trading conditions depend on the broker. It runs on Windows, macOS, the web, Android and iOS.

Compared with MT4, MT5 adds more timeframes, a built-in economic calendar and market depth, and uses a newer programming language (MQL5) for expert advisors and indicators. Expert advisors written for MT4 do not run on MT5 without changes.
