Is forex trading legal in Ghana?

Not legal advice. Below are the regulators’ own words, quoted from their official pages on the dates shown. Laws and rules change: check the regulator’s site before you open an account.

Facts verified on October 28, 2026

In Ghana, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulates the securities market under the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), as amended, and publishes a directory of the firms it has licensed.

The quotes below come from two SEC documents. The first is a directive dated 23 June 2026 (Directive Number Dir/001/06/2026) addressed to market operators, fintech service providers and persons owning or operating online investment and trading platforms. In it, the SEC describes what it observed about unregistered online investment applications and trading platforms that give access to securities listed in local and foreign markets, says when the owner or operator of an online investment or trading platform must obtain a registration or licence from the SEC, and tells anyone operating a platform that the SEC has not approved, licensed or registered to stop. The directive set 31 August 2026 as the deadline for completing the SEC’s registration and licensing process.

The second is an SEC public notice dated 22 July 2026 that lists entities operating without a licence and tells the public how to confirm the licensing status of an entity offering investment products or services.

None of the quoted statements names forex or contracts for difference (CFDs); they are about online investment and trading platforms in general.

Before you open an account, look the platform up in the SEC’s directory of licensees (link below) or confirm its status with the SEC.
