Crypto futures position size calculator
Size a crypto futures position so that hitting your stop loses only the share of your balance you choose, and see the margin it needs.
How it works
Decide how much of your balance you accept to lose if the stop is hit. The position size is that amount divided by the distance between the entry and the stop: coins = (balance × risk %) ÷ |entry − stop|. The margin the exchange holds is the position value divided by the leverage.
Example: with 1,000 in the account, 1% risk, an entry at 60,000 and a stop at 58,500, the position is about 0.00667 coins (worth 400). At 5x leverage the margin is 80, or 8% of the balance.
Leverage changes the margin, not the risk
The loss at the stop depends on the position size and the stop distance. Higher leverage only lowers the margin — and brings the liquidation price closer, which on a fast move can be hit before your stop.
What is not included
Trading fees, funding payments, slippage and each exchange’s own liquidation rules are not included. Futures carry a high risk of losing money quickly; in many countries they are not available to retail clients.
