Dividend calculator with withholding tax
Work out yearly and monthly dividend income after withholding tax, and what reinvesting the dividends adds over the years.
How it works
Gross dividends for a year are the amount invested × the dividend yield. Withholding tax is then taken at the rate you enter, so the net dividend is gross × (1 − tax rate). With “reinvest” on, each year’s net dividends buy more of the same investment, so the next year’s dividends are paid on a larger amount.
Example: 10,000 with a 4% yield pays 400 a year before tax; with 30% withheld you receive 280, about 23 a month.
The withholding rate
Countries tax dividends paid to foreign investors at source. The rate depends on where the company is based, on your country of tax residence and on any tax treaty between them, and your broker applies it based on the tax form you filed with it. Check the rate on your broker’s statements or tax documents and enter it here. Tax you owe at home is not included.
Limits
The calculator assumes that share prices and the yield stay the same. In reality prices move every day and companies can cut or stop their dividends, so treat the result as arithmetic, not a forecast.
